<br>A resident of Macon Missouri, this inventor was issued patent 789,099 on May 2, 1905 for an "Adding Machine" of a very un-Comptometer-like construction. In fact, it used one of the earliest of the 10-key "serial-entry" keyboards rather than the "full keyboard" made popular by F&T and Burroughs almost 20 years prior. Lockwood's design, like all true adding machines, included a "lister" (printer).

It was not until 1921 when the H-model made its debut that one finds this 1905 date appearing on the Comptometer's patent plate! At that point, Lockwood's patent would not yet have expired so its assumed that Felt either bot out Lockwood, hired him and/or arranged to license some covered feature of this aged patent.
